GELNHAUSEN — Police authorities in Hessen deployed a large team following a series of emergency calls reporting a shooting incident on Sunday evening in the city of Gelnhausen. This event sparked public concern and a swift response from law enforcement.
Initial reports received by the police indicated the sound of shots fired at several locations, prompting a large-scale operation to secure the area and identify the source of the threat. Local residents were urged to remain calm and cooperate with officers on the ground.
In a prompt response, officers successfully intercepted and stopped a convoy consisting of six vehicles in the Gelnhausen area. The convoy was suspected of being connected to the incoming shooting reports.
During initial inspections, approximately 25 individuals were found inside the vehicles forming the convoy. All of them underwent intensive questioning by the authorities to ascertain their involvement in the incident.
Further investigation by forensic teams and police intelligence led to the seizure of a blank firing pistol (schreckschusswaffe) from one of the convoy participants. This weapon is believed to have been used to fire the shots reported by residents.
A blank firing pistol, while not fatal, can produce sounds very similar to real gunfire, potentially causing panic and disturbing public order. The unauthorized use of such weapons in public places constitutes a serious offense.
A spokesperson for the Hessen Police stated that the operation proceeded smoothly, and no casualties or injuries were reported as a result of the shooting incident or police intervention. The situation was fully brought under control.
Nevertheless, the police affirmed their commitment to further investigate the motive behind the shots fired and the purpose of the vehicle convoy. All involved parties will be questioned further.
This case serves as a warning to the public about the importance of not misusing objects resembling firearms, especially for actions that can cause public unrest. The law will strictly enforce against any violations.
