Almeria — The devastating mega forest fire that swept through the Province of Almeria, Andalusia, Spain, finally showed signs of subsiding in early 2026, after scorching approximately 5,000 hectares of land. The 5,000 hectares of land consumed by the fire largely comprised pine forests and scrubland that serve as vital habitats for local biodiversity. The ecological damage is expected to take decades to fully recover, even with intensive reforestation efforts.
Combined SAR teams from various regions across Spain have been deployed to Almeria, combing every corner of the affected area with search dogs and drone technology. They work tirelessly amid difficult and still smoky terrain, searching for clues to the whereabouts of the missing victims.
